What Exactly is a Mother of Occasion Trunk Show?

A Trunk Show is where we (for a short time only) carry styles in our store that we do not usually have. In this case, Siri is sending us dozens of popular Mother of Occasion styles so that we have more options for mothers who are still looking for the perfect dress for their son or daughter's wedding.

What Can I Expect at My Appointment?

During your 90-minute appointment you will meet with your stylist, and she will give you an introduction to the store and our selection of dresses. Your stylist will serve as your helper throughout the entire 90 minutes, making sure your gowns are pinned correctly, accessories are added as needed, and all your questions are answered. 

What if I Don't Like The Color of the Dress In Store?

Nearly all of our dresses can be ordered in a variety of different colors, fabrics, and patterns. If you are loving the fit of a dress, your Miss Ruby stylist can show you the other color options available for order. Please note: Dresses take up to 16 weeks to arrive in-store from time of order. 

The Wedding is Fast Approaching - What Are My Options?
For mothers who have a wedding taking place within the next few months, we will have a variety of styles that are available for purchase off the rack. This means, if the style and color work for you, you can purchase the in-store sample and take the dress home with you when you leave the boutique!

How Can I Prepare for my Appointment?
Before your appointment, look online to familiarize yourself with the styles we will have in store. If you have any questions about what you are expected to wear, be sure to ask the bride! She may have a specific color that she wants you to wear, or she may let you choose whatever color and style you prefer. Either way, knowing what you are looking for before you come to the boutique will make the appointment run smoother.

What Undergarments Should I Wear?
Wearing proper undergarments is also key. If you know that you are going to be wearing spanks or similar undergarments - bring them with you to your appointment! If you are unsure of your undergarments, we recommend nude bra and panties with minimal pushup.

Who Should I Bring Along With Me?
Be thoughtful about who you bring with you to your appointment. If there are friends or family members who's opinions are important, we encourage you to bring them along! Often, friends, husbands, or even the bride/groom come to the appointment as well.

If I Can't Decide on a Dress, Can I Come Back the Following Weekend?
We would love to have you come back to our store! Just keep in mind that most of the Siri Mother of Occasion dresses we will have in our store are available for order/purchase during the Trunk Show ONLY - we recommend you are ready to decide at your appointment if the dress is right for you. Otherwise, you may not have the option to try it on or order it at a later date.

If I an Unsure of My Schedule, Can I Browse Your Dresses Without an Appointment?
You are more than welcome to stop in our store to browse, however without an appointment we cannot guarantee that there will be a fitting room open or a stylist available to answer your questions. Our fitting rooms are promised only to customers with appointments. We are more than happy to squeeze you in if we are able, but we recommend you schedule an appointment for the best service possible.

With out Moving Sale (and our big move!) quickly approaching, we thought that we would take the time to answer some FAQs about our sale so that everyone knows exactly what to expect before they come through our doors Friday afternoon.

What Is Your Moving Sale?

Our Moving Sale is taking place so that we can sell some of our sample bridesmaid, mother of occasion, special occasion, and little white dresses before we move to our new location at The Pritzlaff. 

Is There Anything Wrong With Your Samples?

Our samples are all in excellent condition because we take great care of our dresses. With that being said, they occasionally have minor defects such as missing a hook & eye clasp, etc. All of our dresses are priced accordingly.

Can I Order a Dress From the Moving Sale in a Different Color or Size for My Bridesmaids?

If a dress does not say "discontinued" on the tag, it is likely able to be ordered in different colors and sizes. However, it can only be ordered for the ORIGINAL RETAIL PRICE. The discounted Moving Sale price is to purchase the sample dress we have in store ONLY. 

Will You Have Sample Bridal Gowns at Your Moving Sale?

We will have a limited number of bridal gown samples available for purchase. Please call Miss Ruby Boutique to inquire if a specific gown will be on our sale. 

Does Your Moving Sale Run All Day?

Our moving sale takes place during our Friday business hours: Noon - 6:00. While the sale is first come, first serve, please don't arrive before Noon - our doors won't be open before that time. 

What Sizes Are Your Samples?

The sizes of our bridesmaid and special occasion dresses vary by designer, but they all run between street sizes 6-14. If you are below or above that size range, it will be very difficult to find sample dresses at our sale that will fit you correctly. With that being said, a Miss Ruby Consultant can talk to you about alterations that can be done on a specific dress.

Do You Take Personal Checks?

Tips for Mother of Occasion Dresses

Shopping when you're the mother of occasion can seem like a daunting task with all the options out there to choose from.  What can make it more difficult sometimes is the lack of options--whether the style feels dated or too risque, its hard to find that balance in the middle where Mom feels appropriate, but not like she has to dress way beyond her years.

This weekend April 17-19 we're having a Trunk Show from one of our favorite designers for stylish and chic Moms-- Siri.  Here are some great options for Moms for the upcoming summer and fall wedding seasons!

Spring/Summer Wedding: 

Great to focus on cocktail length dresses in a variety of lighter fabrics like a beautiful chiffon or a breathable silk shantung--Check some of these Siri styles out!

Siri's Glissando Dress has a great printed fabric that is sure to stun at any Summer wedding

Siri Mother of Occasion Trunk Show November 1-3

November is all about the Moms at Miss Ruby! Our Siri Mother of Occasion Trunk Show will be held November 1-3 and will feature dresses in a variety of sizes and styles that are meant just for Moms!

No matter your age, shape or style, Siri has something for everyone. From strapless, peplum cocktail dresses to Old Hollywood-style gowns and everything in between, we will have a dress to highlight your best assets and make you look as beautiful as the bride on the big day!

Rules for Picking a Perfect Mother of the Bride/Groom Dress

As a mom, picking out a dress for your son or daughter's wedding can difficult. After all, the bride knows what she is expected to wear. But when it comes to moms, the rules get a little difficult. There are so many different shades, shapes and styles to choose from that many moms can feel overwhelmed - wanting to please the bride but also pick something that makes them look perfect.

We work with moms every day, and have compiled a list of "Rules" for moms to follow when picking out a dress. Use these as a guide so that you or your mom can look beautiful on the big day.

#1: There is no such thing as "age-appropriate"
       What we mean by this is that there is no one thing you are "required" or "not allowed" to wear on your son or daughters wedding day. We had a mom in recently who found a strapless, cocktail length dress that looked amazing on her. We have other moms who want sleeves so they feel more covered. And the best part is - both are fine! No matter your age, you know what your taste level is better than anyone. Don't let any person or magazine article tell you to dress a certain way just because of your age!

#2: Consider the bride's wedding vision (but use your best judgement)
       We have a lot of moms who find their dress right away, but spend most of their appointment pouring over the color swatches, wanting to be sure that they are getting the absolute perfect shade of red (or pink, or grey, etc) that exactly matches the napkins on the table, flowers in the bouquet, or some other detail in the wedding. When we run into this, the best advice we can give is to consider the overall vision of the wedding, rather than being stuck on a certain color.

If the bride is doing a fall wedding, chances are she would rather have you in a gorgeous burgundy dress than a mediocre one in a specific shade of orange. If the bride requires black, having a dress with a subtle navy lining that makes the black lace "pop" is going to make her just as happy. We aren't saying that you should make your own rules if the bride has laid them out for you, just remember that she would rather have you in something you look beautiful and comfortable in, rather than something that looks forced.

No matter how old, every girl still needs her mom on her wedding day!

#3: Bring reinforcements
       If you know you are the kind of person who needs a second (or third!) opinion, then by all means, bring them to your appointment. If there is a friend who has great style or your husband always tells you the truth, having them at your appointment can give you reassurance of both your likes and dislikes. Even better yet, if possible, bring the bride! Many moms always want a final "ok" from the bride herself, and this is a perfect way to do so!

#4: Confidence is key
      Every woman everywhere has body issues. It's a fact. The key to getting a perfect dress isn't having the perfect body, it's having a dress that fits your body perfectly. If you have a tummy you would rather disguise, choose something with ruching. If your trouble area is your arms, a 3-quarter length sleeve is exactly what you need. And if you aren't sure, ask your Miss Ruby consultant! They will be happy to point you in the right direction.

#5: Pick something you are comfortable in
      This is the most important rule for everyone. Whether you are a bride, bridesmaid, flower girl, or mom, having a dress that you feel comfortable and beautiful in is the first priority! It is the single best way to exude confidence at the wedding. If you pick something you love, you will look back at pictures years from now and only see wonderful memories.

A picture with mom and new bride is a must for any groom!
