How to Choose a Veil Length

A veil is a must-have on your wedding day. The decision to buy one veil over another comes down to how much you want to jazz up or soften the look of your wedding dress. No matter your dress, style, or venue, there is sure to be a veil that will complement your bridal look.

Take a look below to find which veil length will create the look you'll love.

Birdcage Veil

Birdcage veils are the shortest length, and are a beautiful choice for brides who want a veil without much fuss. The birdcage veil often uses one layer of French netting or silk tulle with an option of decorations such as crystals, pearls and diamonds. It is often attached to the hair with pins, combs or clips. Flowers or feathers can also be added as an extra adornment.

This type of look is small but statement making! It works best for brides who want a glamorous vintage look, as these veils are reminiscent of brides in the early 20th century.

Elbow Length

Elbow length veils are elegant and easy to handle and are very romantic without the hassle of carrying a full length veil behind you. These are perfect if you’re wearing a full dress or ball gown as they end just about at the point where the skirt of your gown starts, which is super flattering.

Elbow length veils are elegant without being too traditional. They are perfect for brides who are having a more relaxed or whimsical style wedding.

Fingertip Length

This length veil is easily our most popular at Miss Ruby Boutique. It's not surprising that it's also the most flattering length for brides. This veil looks beautiful on any body type and coordinates perfectly with most gown styles. It is a great choice because it allows a bride to wear a veil that won’t block the  beautiful details on the back of her gown.

We recommend this length to almost everyone who wants a traditional bridal look. Choose a beautiful edging and you're good to go!

Cathedral Length Veil

These are the longest types of veils that you can buy. They are considered very formal and are better suited for a more traditional wedding (as opposed to a destination or beach wedding.) The veil should extend past the bride’s train, and when spread out still allow the gown to be seen. This veil is also the most difficult to manage, but they are beautiful to photograph and make a lasting impression.

Cathedral length veils work best in a more traditional setting & look best paired with gowns that have a somewhat substantial train. These veils are incredibly statement making, meaning that modern and fashion-forward brides consider this veil a must have.

Jimmy's Picks for 2017

Our stylist Jimmy knows a few things about bridal trends. After all, he's been styling brides at Miss Ruby boutique for years and always has great advice & feedback for his brides.

Wanting to know how he would style a 2017 wedding?
Take a look below for his picks from our newest collections.

Favorite Bridal Gown

"I love the Miriam gown by Willowby. The cut-outs on the side make it a really sexy dress. If you can pull this one off, I say go for it!"

Favorite Bridesmaids Dress

"This dress (#5708 by Hayley Paige Occasions) hasn't gotten a lot of attention yet & I have no idea why! I put this in the fitting room of all my bridesmaids appointments. It shows just enough cleavage to be a little bit sexy, but still wedding appropriate."

Favorite Dress for Mom

We just got this dress (Dessy #6764) in at our store. This is a great dress for a mom who wants to be a little bit trendy, but still stay really classy for the wedding. We have it sampled in the color "burgundy," which is always a flattering and safe color for Moms. "

"Having an open bar is my favorite wedding trend!"

Bridal Gowns by Body Type

Knowing your body type is the first step towards finding a gown that is going to look as perfect on you as it does on Pinterest. Every bride is beautiful, no matter her shape or size, and finding a dress that enhances your best features will make you feel even more beautiful on your big day.

Take a look below to find your body type and learn the style of wedding gown that's right for you!

Slender

Sheath gowns are a definite "do" for this body type. Dresses with minimal structure and vertical seams will enhance your slim figure, while still allowing you to look timeless and elegant. Gowns in this silhouette come in a variety of fabrics and cuts, allowing your style to be incredibly versatile.

- Our Picks -

Athletic

If you have an athletic body-type, we suggest wearing gowns with thicker straps, "V" necklines, and cap sleeves. Often, sleeveless or strapless gowns can bring attention to athletic, broad shoulders, and end up making you look boxy. Choosing a slim gown with a thicker strap will downplay your shoulders and enhance your beautiful figure!

- Our Picks -

Hourglass

When your bust and hips are proportional, you have what is called an "hourglass" figure. We find that this body type is perfect for fitted, mermaid-style gowns. This shows off and plays up your already amazing hourglass curves.

- Our Picks -

Pear

If your figure is defined by your curvy hips, a gown that enhances your waist will balance your proportions and make your body look even more stunning. For this body type, we suggest an A-Line or Ballgown style dress. The skirts on these silhouettes begin at your smallest point and enhance your pear-shaped figure.

- Our Picks -

Curvy

If you are a full-figured gal, you have a ton of options that are going to make your body look amazing! While some Curvy gals think that being covered-up is more flattering, we find so many brides with this body-type find that showing off their figure in a structured gown is what looks best.

2017 Bridesmaids Trends

Are your bridesmaids on trend for 2017?

One of the reasons that we love working with bridal parties is that we get to hear all kinds of ideas about how brides want their bridesmaids to look. Even better, we also love sharing our own ideas with brides to enhance their wedding's overall style.

Here are 3 of our favorite looks for 2017 that only our chicest bridal parties are putting together. Make sure your bridesmaids fashion is on point, then share your own ideas below!

- Ivories and Neutrals -

2016 saw lots of bridesmaids wearing "champagne" colored gowns. The trick with champagne-tones is making sure they match every girl's skin color - choose a dress with too yellow of an undertone and your girls are sure to be washed out in pictures. 2017 brides who want to take on this trend are sticking with ivory and very light neutrals that compliment every single girl in the group.

- Mix-and-Match -

This is the most popular bridesmaids trend by far, however picking different shades of the same color just doesn't cut it. It's actually quite difficult to make your girls look mis-matched without it looking like a big mess! Stick to color themes (pastels, for example) or juxtapose different textures to get an on-trend look. Still need help? That's what Miss Ruby's Stylists are here for!

- Two Piece Perfection -

The chicest 2017 brides are outfitting their bridesmaids in separates. Being able to switch out the tops allows for your girls to truly customize their look and stay right on trend. And don't worry - your midriff doesn't have to show at all.

Watters has an amazing collection of mix-and-match styles - in store now!
