Inspiration: Urban Glam Wedding

Weddings conjure up images of crisp, clean lines and brides looking like pastries. One of our favorites Wisconsin wedding photographers, Magdalene Photography, prefers that wedding shots stray from the norm. We recently collaborated in a styled shoot that sought to create a bridal look equal parts grunge and glamour. If you're an alternative bride who wants her big day to reflect her darker style, take a look at how the city's sharp edges can create a flawless Urban Glam Wedding.

-Bridal-

To bring out the glam in your urban glam wedding, we love the Elsa Overskirt from Theia. The use of beaded details on the belt gives any bride the perfect touch of glam for her dress. For the perfect look, layer this skirt with the Wtoo Elise Gown. This gown has lace and beads that combine glamour and romance. Pair it with unexpected accessories (like a leather jacket or moto boots) for the perfect alternative bridal look.

-Bridesmaids-

Darker toned colors such as eggplant, steel blue, burgundy, and metallics are great colors to give your bridesmaids a harder-edged look.  These colored dresses will look great against the blank urban background of the wedding. If you want to add more glam to your bridesmaid dresses you can always go with styles that have sequins, lace, sparkles and beading to add more romance to the gowns.

-Beauty-

Smoky eyes are a must for this urban glam bridal party. Adding sparkles to the dark eye can help create the ultimate glamorous makeup look. Besides adding sparkles to your makeup, showing off  romantic diamonds are the perfect touch for the Bride to bring out her glamorous side for this urban glam fairytale. We also love diamonds that are accompanied with pearls, which adds a certain decadence to this otherwise stripped-away look.

 -Venue-

A great location for your urban glam wedding is at a warehouse. This location will bring out the industrial side, cozy atmosphere and can be highlighted by the glamorous details. Having your location at an old warehouse is not only beautiful but also has a lot of history to showcase. It will provide you the perfect blank-canvas to create your wedding day vision.

 -Details-

Through the use of lights and Edison Bulbs will pop against the industrial details of your venue. When added to a warehouse-style venue, it gives the entire atmosphere a magical feel. Adding sparkles and sequins to this industrial setting is a must, whether it is an added detail to the cake or the tables, this will make your dream urban glam wedding come to life.

Vendors we Love: North Star Catering

North Star Catering started as a restaurant located in Grafton, Wisconsin. Their delicious, handmade food is just the beginning - North Star Catering also provides customer service that goes above and beyond the industry standard. When it comes to catering, they are simply a "must" at any wedding!

From weddings, galas, & corporate functions, to small in-home parties, North Star Catering has menus and staffing to accommodate all weddings and events. They are admittedly not the cheapest option when it comes to catering - nor do they want to be. A moderate price point and their signature "real good food" means that you are getting more for your dollar than you will at many other Milwaukee caterers.

Their quality and flexibility are what make them a perfect option for your wedding or special event. The team at North Star Catering is transparent with their costs and are more than willing to make any necessary adjustments to make your event unique!

There are a few details that guests always discuss after a wedding. For better or for worse, the food is always one of them. Do your guests a favor and hire North Star Catering for your wedding - give them something amazing to talk about!

Miss Ruby's Volunteer Night at Kathy's House

The Milwaukee community has done so many great things for our boutique and our employees, we think it's only fair to give something back from time to time. Last Monday, April 11th, our team transformed from Stylists to Sous Chefs as we prepped and served a meal to the resident's at Kathy's House.

Kathy's House is a non-profit hospitality house founded in memory of a woman named Kathy Kuttner Vogel, who lost her battle with lymphoma in 2000. Exactly one year later, her family opened Kathy's House in her honor.

Supported only by donations, Kathy's House provides lodging and support to patients, caregivers, and family members who travel to Milwaukee-area hospitals from at least 50-miles from their home for medical care. To date, thousands of people have benefited from the caring team at this great organization.

Our volunteer role was to cook and prepare a meal for the house residents, so that eating a home cooked meal is the last thing on their mind. It was a great way for us to work together as a team and give back to those in need.

Natasha and Chelsea ready the fruit and vegetables for our guests.

Jimmy gets all the burger toppings ready to go.

Miss Ruby Volunteer Coordinator Lauren puts the finishing touches on our spread.

Valerie is busy at work in the kitchen cooking burgers for the hungry residents.

This holiday season, Miss Ruby Boutique is helping out the Capuchin's and St. Ben's with their Holiday Food Drive! Vendors We Love: Aloft Hotel

The Miss Ruby Staff recently returned from a special staff meeting at the Aloft Hotel in downtown Milwaukee! While there, we got a special peek into the hotel rooms, the trendy lounge area and their modern function space to hold wedding ceremonies and receptions. We love the hotel and think our brides will too!
The Aloft Hotel - located at 1230 N Old World Third Street

If you are looking for a wedding that has a uniquely modern, Milwaukee feel, this just might be the hotel for you. Located downtown on Old World Third Street, Aloft is in the center of all the action and proves it with its sleek downtown atmosphere & its views of the Milwaukee river. The entrance is less a lobby and more of a lounge with a mix of business types working on laptops and couples enjoying drinks.

The W XYZ bar in the hotel lounge area. We loved their lighted bar!
The Aloft lounge area, complete with a fireplace and pool table

The space where wedding receptions are held carries the same modern feel as the rest of the hotel. It can be completely customized to your wedding vision, and everything from the set up to the menu and anything in between can be created for the big day. And after partying the night away, your guests can stay in the ultra-comfortable beds upstairs.

Enjoy views of Milwaukee right from your hotel room.
Sleep on Aloft's ultra comfortable beds

If you are a bride that is looking for a modern Milwaukee wedding at a venue that is urban and comfortable check them out. Best of all, Aloft offers special discounts and rates to Miss Ruby customers. So make sure to tell them we sent you and you will be rewarded!!

Make Your Reception Cocktails Unforgettable

It's no secret that at a wedding in Wisconsin guests expect that the bar will be open and the drinks will be flowing. To celebrate this fact, we wanted to share some fun reception cocktail ideas that can compliment the theme of any wedding.

For an over-the-top drink to match a swanky soiree the use of dry-ice makes any martini extra decadent. For a more demure wedding, a mimosa bar is a cute, colorful cocktail hour idea. We also love having the bartender serve personalized "his and her" drinks that match the bride and groom's personalities. Even something like a Jello-shot can get dressed up for the big day (like the Bramble-berry shot below) and make an unforgettable impression.

Check out our wedding drinks of choice below and let us know how you plan on personalizing your cocktail hour!
