An Audey story

One of our dearest customers sent us this sweet little note. Read on…and check out how fabulous she looked!

Here's my little story about the night I wore my adorable Audey dress. I wore my dress to my cousin's wedding this past Friday night. It was an evening wedding but the weather was still extremely summer like. Thinking my new Audey chartreuse & cream print dress would be just fine. I did discover though that I felt a little uncomfortable seeing that everyone was wearing the basic "safe" black dress. During the cocktail hour at the reception, I had just told my husband that I would just stand back along the wall out of the way. My "poufs" were making me feel a little out of place, when this adorable young woman, maybe in her 30's, came up to me and said "I just LOVE your dress!" She said when I walked in the church, she turned to her guy and said "Jon, look at that dress!" I couldn't resist and told her how sweet she was saying such a nice thing. I then told her my story, how I was feeling and how I got my designer dress. She told me people around here just don't know and have no style. She told me to wear the dress proud because I looked absolutely stunning! I danced the night away! Thanks Audey!

Dress in the City

Chapter 1: A skirt, a girl, a city…

One of the things I love most about the city of Milwaukee is the way that you can become absolutely consumed by it. It is a planet in and of its own; the center of gravity, pulling you in with each stiletto clad step you take. And in the rhythm of its pulse you find yourself breathing all of it in. The sights, the sounds, and most importantly the fashion!

This city wouldn’t be a city without the sashay of a beautiful chiffon skirt, or the strut of a gorgeous pair of pumps. In fact if you stop to listen, the city is alive with the sounds of couture. It’s the women in their tailored suits running off to important meetings; the ladies on their first dates dressed head to toe, only to impress. And it is this reason above all else, that I feel it is important to pay homage to those gals who take the city of Milwaukee by storm, just like the lovely lady in this pic!

I love this outfit for so many reasons! For starters it seems to almost be an extension of the city itself, with the hard angled lines of the jacket and twisted metal chain of the necklace. And that’s exactly why the bubble skirt is the perfect addition to this ensemble. It, along with the bow embellishment of the necklace, is just the right amount of feminine frill to soften the look. Additionally, the layering effect of the jacket makes it a perfect piece for work or play. Add a gorgeous pair of pumps for a night out on the town or some beautiful ballerina flats to take a more casual spin. Whatever angle you choose, together these pieces work like a well oiled machine - and in the city it’s all about getting where you need to go!

So ladies, the next time you’re out and about in downtown Milwaukee, stop for a second to take it in. After all in a city with its hard exterior, good fashion is the armor everyone needs. And like the embrace of a loved one, a great outfit makes you feel powerful, secure and most of all fabulous!

The Castella Gown has arrived

Hey all you brides looking for a simple yet elegant gown without the poof and beading...we've got exactly what you're looking for! The beautiful Castella Gown by Siri just arrived and it is gorgeous. Pictures just don't do it justice. This silk shantung dress is very light so it is perfect for an outdoor wedding or a more casual affair. However, it still has a bridal elegance to it so it would be just as perfect for an elegant wedding. You can even select a second color for the sweep train. Cool huh?

Audey Trunk Show - Milwaukee's Fashion's Night Out - September 10

Create your very own Audey dress with the help of Jessica Audey, the talented owner and designer of the Chicago-based Audey - http://www.audey.com/.

Jessica will be at Miss Ruby on September 10 from 6-9pm to help us celebrate Milwaukee's Fashion's Night Out (http://fnomke.blogspot.com/) and to help you design your very own dress!

Audey's line gives custom dress making a new meaning. The process is pretty darn easy! You start by selecting a silhouette (you can mix and match tops and bottoms giving you over 30 options to choose from). Then on to the fabric where you get to choose from bold colors and dramatic prints, including some amazing new fabrics for fall and holiday. And voila, you'll have your very own dress created by you that you can show off at your next party!

Don't miss out on this opportunity to have Jessica help you design your own cocktail dress. And for those of you that don't want to design your own we'll have some amazing pieces ready to go.

Oh, and of course they'll be treats for you to enjoy. See you there!

Trends You'll Fall For

Ladies, Miss Ruby here, with the fabulous fashion must haves for fall 2009! This season’s trends are all about bold stripes, sleek cuts, and delicate exaggerations! Below are my 4 favorite pieces you’ll fall head over heels for:

1. Circus Act - Put on a show with bold black and white stripes reminiscent of the playful pantomime himself. This look is all about drama! Perfect as a tunic with a pair of skinny black jeans for a night out on the town, or under your favorite cable knit sweater along with leggings for a causal Sunday stroll. Either way, this is a look you’ll definitely want to copy!

Style Tips: The stripes alone are a bold statement, so let them be the centerpiece and avoid over accessorizing. For those of you with shorter torsos never fear! While stripes can be your worst nightmare, if you opt for a longer fitting top or tunic (one that falls below the crease of your hip) something amazing happens! The stripes and length together actually elongate your torso which will certainly turn that frown upside down.

2. Office Space - This fall, vamp up your business casual look with a sleek contoured jacket. Trade in those shoulder pads and A-line cuts for gathered hems and pin-tucked seams that will instantly promote your beautiful figure! Opt for ¾ sleeves or roll up long sleeves for a more fun and fashion forward look.

Style tips: These jackets look great with just about anything. For work pair with a bubble skirt and tucked in tank or blouse. And for play, pair with dark wash skinny jeans, a medium length loose fitting tank (if you’re feeling really trend conscious try this look with a black and white striped top) and of course a great pair of pumps!

3. Beautiful Ballerina - Don’t worry this doesn’t require pliés or rond de jambes, but you will be the picture of perfection in the tutu inspired skirts and dresses of fall. With layers and layers of delicate tulle and silk chiffon, this look puts a dramatic twist on simple elegance.

Style Tips: These dresses can be the conversation piece of the night and of course a pro on the dance floor. But if you want a more casual look, pair these frilly dresses with a fitted jacket. Opt for a cropped version so the length of the coat doesn’t cover your frock.

4. Take a Bow - That’s right ladies, similar to those from the days in the sandbox, the bows of fall 2009 are an exaggerated expression of feminine frills. Wear the bows in your hair, on your necklace, clothing - pretty much anywhere!

Style Tips: Don a bow on your headband and let it be the fabulous accent to your ensemble. Or sport a dress that’s fit to be tied with bold bow embellishments. However you choose to sport your beautiful bows remember, the bigger the better!
