If you are a curvy bride-to-be who doesn't know where to begin when it comes to bridal shopping, read on for our expert advice on how to find a gown that will flatter your figure and make you feel beautiful on the big day.
Then, schedule an appointment for our Curve Trunk Show, taking place Friday, February 26th - Sunday, February 28th.
Tip #1: Don't Be Afraid to Try Different Styles On
This tip isn't exclusively for plus-size brides, yet it is still good to remember when bridal shopping. Many brides begin their bridal journey with rigid requirements in mind - some think they will only look good in ballgowns, while others think that sleeves will keep their problem areas hidden.
These rules may be rooted in fact but they are by no means all-inclusive. The truth is, no one knows what they will look like in a dress while it is still hanging out on the hanger! Even if you aren't crazy about a type of dress, be sure to try on a variety of styles (strapless, high-neck, fitted, and full) so that you can be sure before you rule it out for good.
Tip #2: Bring A Great Support System...
Bridal shopping can be an overwhelming experience for anyone, but it can be even worse when you are unsure about how sample sizes will fit your body. If you want a second (or third) opinion about how a gown looks on you, you are not alone - just be sure the people you bring to the bridal boutique are ultra-supportive. Choose friends and family members who will help you make a decision that is best for you.
Tip #3: ...But Have Inner Confidence
No matter what the opinions of friends & family in attendance, the most important opinion is always the bride's! Have the confidence in yourself to voice your own opinions about what you like or don't like about a dress. This way, when you narrow down your options, you will end up with a dress you feel truly beautiful in.
Tip #4: Trust Your Stylist
It is your stylists job to not only look beautiful, but also feel comfortable throughout your appointment. If you have hesitations, reservations, or questions about the bridal shopping process, don't be afraid to speak up! He or she has heard everything before, and your honesty & communication makes the process easier for everyone.
Also, trust their opinions when they grab you gowns. Even though a style may lie outside of your comfort zone, he or she would never pick something that would make you look ridiculous. Often, plus-size brides thank our stylists for picking a perfect dress that the bride herself overlooked the first time through the store.
Tip #5: Shop at Stores that Carry Plus Size Samples
Being a plus-size bride in a "sample-size" world isn't always easy, but the process gets much less stressful when you find a store that carries plus size samples in store. This makes it easier for you to envision each style in your size and helps you feel more secure in your final decision.Miss Ruby Boutique is proud to carry a selection of samples in sizes 20, 22, & 24. Additionally, our Curve Trunk Show includes dozens of in-store samples in a sizes 18 - 24! Even if our samples aren't a perfect fit, nearly all of our gowns can be ordered for you in sizes that range from 20 - 32.
